Three
months ago I started working on a children's book that I was asked to
illustrate. It's been a long ride and it's finally accomplished. At this point
I can't reveal anything from the "end product" but I do want to show
you how it all started. After some visual research, I spent hours on trying to
create a character of an Ethiopian man and it all went terribly wrong. Later, one
night I realized that the only way for it to work is if I make myself love him.
A few
weeks later, the wise Liora Grossman told me that the leading character in
children's books need to be someone that the young readers would want to invite
to their birthday party. Boy she was right.
